Meet the Editor

The person behind The Shrimpers-online — a lifelong Southend United supporter building independent coverage, live match tools, supporter features and a growing record of the club’s history.

Founder Editor Southend United supporter Since 2004
First-hand experience

A supporter first, an editor second

I created The Shrimpers-online in 2004 because I wanted a Southend United website that felt like it belonged to supporters. The original site combined match discussion, humour, opinion and a forum community at a time when independent fan websites were still finding their place.

The original site eventually disappeared, but my interest in Southend United — and the idea behind The Shrimpers-online — never did.

In 2026 I brought the site back with a much bigger ambition: not simply to publish articles, but to build a useful independent Southend United platform covering what is happening now while preserving what happened before.

What I do

From matchday coverage to the archive

I oversee the site and its development, with help, feedback and contributions from other Southend United supporters. My work across The Shrimpers-online includes:

✍️

Editorial coverage

Writing and editing news, previews, match reports, features and supporter-focused coverage.

🔴

Matchday tools

Developing Southend Live, the Live Match Centre and connected matchday features.

📊

Data & statistics

Building fixtures, results, league, squad and historical records into useful supporter tools.

🎟️

Supporter information

Producing tools such as the Ticket Centre and away information around the things supporters actually need.

🦐

The Clubhouse

Developing the community, conversations, prediction games and other supporter features.

📚

History & archive

Working towards a detailed season-by-season record of Southend United from 1920 onwards.

Why the site exists

Useful today. Worth keeping tomorrow.

  • Provide independent Southend United coverage from a supporter perspective.
  • Build useful tools around matches, tickets, league information and the fan experience.
  • Preserve Southend United history, statistics and memories for future supporters.
  • Create a welcoming independent community around the club.
Independence

The Shrimpers-online is supporter media

The Shrimpers-online is independent and is not affiliated with Southend United Football Club or the Shrimpers Trust.

That means the site can celebrate the club enthusiastically while still publishing its own views, correcting mistakes and asking questions when necessary.

Editorial responsibility

Accuracy matters

I want readers to know how The Shrimpers-online approaches publishing. Information is checked against appropriate sources where possible, opinion is kept distinguishable from fact, and factual errors should be corrected rather than quietly ignored.

Our Editorial Ethics and Corrections Policy explain those standards in more detail.

Corrections, memories and ideas are welcome

If you spot something that needs correcting, have information that could improve the archive, or have a story or idea for the site, you can contact me directly.
