Enterprise National League Play-Off Eliminator
Tuesday 28 April 2026 • Attis Arena
Promotion dreams extinguished.
Gutted. After all the hard work to get into the play-offs and the excellent form we showed throughout April, it ended with a frustrating night in Lincolnshire. An early Callum Roberts rocket was enough to send us packing for another season. Third time this campaign Scunthorpe have beaten us — and this one really hurt.
Match Report
The game was barely five minutes old when Callum Roberts picked up a loose ball, cut inside and smashed a left-footed shot from 25 yards into the bottom corner. Collin Andeng-Ndi had no chance. 1-0 and you could feel the wind taken out of the travelling Shrimpers.
We responded and should have been level before the break. Harry Boyes whipped in a great cross, Harry Cardwell headed it back across goal, and Keenan Appiah-Forson was denied by a smart reaction save from Louis Jones. Joe Gubbins also produced a heroic sliding block to keep us in it.
Half-Time: Scunthorpe 1–0 Southend
In the second half we had more of the ball but clear chances were rare. Andrew Dallas had a volley from a long throw that just cleared the bar. Kevin Maher threw on Parillon, Miley, Bridge, Kendall and Hopper, but the final ball just wouldn’t drop for us on the night.
Then, right at the death, Harry Taylor received a second yellow card and we finished with ten men. Game over.
Full-Time: Scunthorpe United 1–0 Southend United
Not our night. Credit to Scunthorpe — they took their chance and defended it well. But after the momentum we built, this one hurts. Play-off promotion is gone… but the season isn’t finished yet.
