Southend United have confirmed the appointment of Kieron Dyer as the club’s new Head Coach.

The former Ipswich Town, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough midfielder arrives at Roots Hall with experience from the highest level of English football, as well as coaching roles with Ipswich Town and Chesterfield.

Dyer, who won 33 caps for England between 1999 and 2007, now steps into one of the biggest jobs in non-league football as Southend United look to build on recent progress and push towards a return to the Football League.

Who Is Kieron Dyer?

Kieron Courtney Dyer was born on 29 December 1978 in Ipswich, Suffolk. A talented, explosive midfielder, he came through the ranks at Ipswich Town before earning a major move to Newcastle United in 1999.

At Newcastle, Dyer became one of the Premier League’s most exciting English midfielders, known for his pace, direct running and ability to drive through midfield.

Playing Career

Dyer began his career at Ipswich Town before joining Newcastle United, where he spent the peak years of his playing career. He later represented West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough, while also returning to Ipswich on loan.

On the international stage, he represented England 33 times and was part of the squads for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2004.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Dyer moved into coaching with Ipswich Town, working within the club’s academy structure and under-23 setup. He later joined Chesterfield’s coaching staff, further developing his coaching experience in the senior game.
