Spanish midfielder Arnau Riera Caldentey came on loan from Sunderland for a brief spell in Southend's Championship season. He had previously played for Barcelona B, but Sunderland—not Barcelona—were his parent club when he arrived.
His two League outings came against Colchester United and Norwich City before he returned north at the turn of the year.
