Before, during & after Southend
Chelmsford-born striker Kyle Asante made his senior Southend debut as an eighteen-year-old substitute in the FA Cup defeat at Gillingham in November 2009. He went on to play nine League Two matches in 2010/11 and scored once.
Most of his appearances came off the bench, while a 2012 loan to Thurrock offered more regular football. Southend had awarded him a professional contract in 2011, but he left for St Neots Town the following summer. His ten first-team appearances include the earlier FA Cup outing.
