Aldershot Town 0–2 Southend United – Statement Win at the EBB
Some wins just feel big. This one did. In a crucial Aldershot Town vs Southend United clash, The Shrimpers delivered a calm, confident and complete performance.
Southend United arrived at the EBB Stadium needing three points to secure a play‑off place. For the first time since 2013, we left Aldershot with a victory. It was fully deserved, fully earned, and fully Southend. As a result, everything seemed to fall into place.
A thunderbolt from Gus Scott‑Morriss and a composed finish from Charley Kendall set the tone before the break. From that moment on, The Shrimpers controlled the game. They showed maturity, grit and a touch of swagger throughout.
Seven unbeaten. Five wins in six. Play‑offs secured. Clearly, this team is peaking at the perfect time.

Gus lights it up
The opening twenty minutes were tight and scrappy. Aldershot had the first half‑chance, but nothing troubled Collin Andeng‑Ndi. Meanwhile, at the other end, Scott‑Morriss tried his luck twice — a drilled free‑kick wide and a lifted effort over the bar after Boyes found him in space.
Eventually, the skipper got his moment — and he made it count.
Boyes was fouled 25 yards out. Gus stepped up and curled a perfect strike over the wall. Pat Nash could only watch it fly into the top corner. It was outrageous. It was a Goal of the Season contender. Naturally, it also marked his 16th of the campaign — from wing‑back.
The away end erupted, and understandably so.
Kendall doubles the lead
Just when it looked like we’d go in one up, The Shrimpers produced the move of the match. As a result, it changed the tone of the evening.
Hopper held the ball. Coker threaded the pass. Kendall finished low and calm. It was a striker’s goal — simple, sharp and clinical. Before long, it was 2–0 at half‑time. Confidence rose immediately.
Second‑half control
Aldershot made three changes at the break and enjoyed their best spell. Even so, The Shrimpers stayed calm and managed the tempo well.
Nash tipped a Coker curler wide early on. Andeng‑Ndi had little to do until the 73rd minute, but when needed, he delivered. First he denied Frost with a strong hand. Moments later, he produced a brilliant reaction stop to keep out Warren’s header.
The Shots’ frustration eventually boiled over in stoppage time when Sam Inwood flew into a reckless challenge on Sam Austin. As a result, he was shown a straight red.
Southend almost added a third when Leon Parillon, back from injury, beat his man and smashed a shot that Nash pushed onto the crossbar. It would have been a stunning return for him.
In the end, two goals were enough. More than enough.
Full Time (0–2)
It was a proper away performance. It was a statement. It was a Southend United night from start to finish.
Play‑off place secured. Momentum building. Belief growing.
Bring on Halifax. Bring on Hartlepool. Bring on the play‑offs. This team is ready.
