Goalkeeper Arthur Purdy spent the 1926/27 season at Southend, playing two league matches after arriving from Luton Town. His career then took him to Durham City and Blackpool, where he would make more than thirty Second Division appearances. He is a different player from Southend's earlier wing-half Albert Purdy.
