Before, during & after Southend
Separate Southend spells
Darryl Flahavan is remembered as one of Southend's defining goalkeepers of the 2000s. Signed from Woking in October 2000, he took over from loan keeper Andy Woodman that November. Released in summer 2003, he returned to Roots Hall in September on non-contract terms, soon re-signed and remained through the 2005 play-off promotion and 2006 League One title.
His brilliant saves helped defeat Manchester United 1–0 in the League Cup in November 2006. He left for Crystal Palace in July 2008.
