Striker Elliot Benyon signed from Swindon Town in January 2012 and made his Southend debut in the New Year's draw with Dagenham & Redbridge. He had already scored regularly for Torquay United earlier in his career, but found starting opportunities harder to come by at Roots Hall, contributing two goals from 21 League Two appearances.
Another seven cup, Trophy and play-off outings took his Southend first-team record to 28 games and two goals. He spent the final months of the 2012/13 season on loan at Torquay and returned there permanently after leaving Southend in summer 2013.
