Tall young striker Hamzad Kargbo joined Southend on loan from Queens Park Rangers in August 2021, following a trial during pre-season. The move was initially short-term and came as the Shrimpers were preparing for their first year in the National League.

He made six competitive appearances without scoring before returning to QPR in October alongside fellow loanee Benjamin Kimpioka.
