Harry Lane was one of the outstanding Southend forwards of the 1930s. Signed from Birmingham in 1933, he scored 58 competitive goals before moving to Plymouth Argyle in 1938. He returned after the war, added another 17 goals and finished on 75 from 245 first-team games across two spells.
