American goalkeeper Ian Joyce signed from Watford in summer 2008 after earlier football at Grays Athletic. With Steve Mildenhall and other keepers competing for the shirt, Joyce's Southend first-team career consisted of four league starts and one substitute appearance across 2008/09 and 2009/10.

He moved to MLS side Colorado Rapids in March 2010. Friendlies and reserve fixtures do not count towards those five senior games.
