Before, during & after Southend
American-born winger Jemal Johnson joined Southend in summer 2011 after playing for Lokomotiv Sofia in Bulgaria, having previously appeared in England for Blackburn Rovers, Wolves and MK Dons. His opportunities at Roots Hall were limited to seven senior appearances, most of them from the bench, and he did not score.
The club ended his contract in January 2012. He returned to English non-league football with Dover Athletic the following month.
