Local full-back Justin Edinburgh worked his way up at Southend before earning a move to Tottenham Hotspur. He made 47 senior first-team appearances for the Shrimpers, scoring once. Spurs first took him on loan in January 1990 and signed him permanently that summer; he went on to win both the FA Cup and League Cup in a long top-flight career before becoming a respected manager.
