Before, during & after Southend
Academy graduate Kane Ferdinand broke into Southend's midfield during the 2010/11 League Two campaign and earned his first professional contract in March 2011. He was still a teenager as he became an important goalscoring presence, netting ten times in 71 senior appearances.
Among those goals was one in the 2–0 victory away to Macclesfield Town in October 2011. His rapid progress attracted Peterborough United, who signed him in August 2012 for a transfer fee potentially rising with add-ons. Ferdinand later represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level.
