Leicester City winger Layton Ndukwu joined Southend on a season-long loan in August 2019 after progressing through the Foxes' development teams. He found it difficult to establish a regular place in an unsettled Shrimpers side, starting only twice and making eight further substitute appearances in all competitions.
The clubs agreed to end his loan early in January 2020. Southend's announcement confirmed ten appearances and Sol Campbell acknowledged that it had been a difficult move for the youngster.
