West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Luke Daniels joined Southend on loan in October 2011, helping cover a position affected by injuries. He played nine League Two games, four FA Cup ties and two Football League Trophy matches during a stay that lasted into January 2012.

After fifteen first-team starts at Roots Hall he returned to West Brom. Daniels later played for Scunthorpe United and Brentford, where he was another keeper with Southend connections.
