Zimbabwe international Macauley Bonne joined Southend in September 2024 looking to rediscover the form that made him a prolific scorer at Leyton Orient and earned moves to Charlton Athletic and Ipswich Town. His experience gave Kevin Maher a useful alternative in attack, but the goals did not arrive during his Southend spell.

He still made a contribution, including a dangerous cross that helped create an equaliser against Rochdale in February 2025. Bonne left in August 2025 without a competitive Southend goal.
