Before, during & after Southend
Orsett-born striker Neil Harris fulfilled a boyhood ambition when he left Millwall and signed for Southend in June 2011. A prolific scorer during his long Millwall career, he brought experience and determination to the League Two side, scoring ten times in 52 Southend appearances.
Injury increasingly restricted him in his second season, and a persistent knee problem forced his retirement in June 2013. Harris later established a coaching and managerial career, but he always spoke warmly about finally playing for the club he had watched from the North Bank as a youngster.
