Republic of Ireland international Noel Hunt came to Roots Hall for the 2015/16 League One campaign with considerable experience of Reading, Leeds United and Ipswich Town. Injuries and fitness interruptions limited his opportunities, but he contributed four goals in 22 league matches.

He left Southend at the end of the season and signed for Portsmouth in August 2016. His 22 competitive Southend appearances and four goals are directly confirmed in contemporary coverage of that transfer.
