Striker Rhys Murphy signed from Yeovil Town in June 2021 and brought a proven goalscoring record to Southend's first National League season. He made an immediate impact with important finishes as the club sought stability, but injuries interrupted his playing time, including a knee problem in early 2022. Murphy left in June 2023 to return to Yeovil.
