Centre-back Rob Kiernan had two very different spells as a Southend player. First, Wigan Athletic loaned him to Roots Hall in autumn 2013, when he made twelve League Two appearances and two in the FA Cup. After subsequently playing for Wigan, Birmingham City and Rangers, he returned to Southend permanently in August 2017.
A long period of injuries restricted his availability before he found more playing time in 2018/19 and 2019/20. Across both spells, Kiernan made 49 competitive Southend appearances and scored twice. He left in 2020 and continued his career with Orange County SC in the United States.
