Left-footed winger Sam Barratt joined Southend from Maidenhead United in 2018 after impressing in the National League and earning England C recognition. A serious knee injury severely restricted his opportunities at Roots Hall and prevented him from building momentum.

He managed ten League One games, starting three and appearing seven times from the bench, before returning to Maidenhead in 2020. He later spent time with Barnet before another return to the Magpies.
