Striker Scott Spencer signed for Southend in January 2010 after earlier spells with Everton, Macclesfield Town and Rochdale. He scored four League One goals in twelve games during the second half of 2009/10, including in the memorable 4–3 defeat at Bristol Rovers.
Opportunities were fewer following relegation: he played another six matches in 2010/11, five in League Two and one in the League Cup. His contract ended by mutual consent in January 2011 and he moved to Lincoln City, where he reunited with former Southend manager Steve Tilson. His complete Southend total was eighteen appearances and four goals.
