Southend academy graduate Tom Clifford developed into an attacking left-back while the club was adjusting to life outside the Football League. He made his first senior appearances in 2018 and went on to contribute five goals in 68 competitive matches, often delivering from set pieces.

His Southend career covered the final years in League One and League Two and the early National League seasons. Clifford left by mutual agreement in August 2023 and continued his career at King's Lynn Town.
