A true Southend great, Kevin Maher joined from Tottenham's academy in 1998 and grew into the midfield leader who captained the Shrimpers to promotion through the League Two play-offs in 2005 and the League One title in 2006. His ten years at Roots Hall preceded a 2008 Gillingham loan and permanent move to Oldham, and he later returned to lead Southend as manager in 2021.
