Hard-working Irish midfielder Michael Timlin first arrived on loan from Swindon Town in September 2010, came back for another loan the following season and made Southend his permanent home in January 2012. He was a mainstay of the midfield under Paul Sturrock and Phil Brown, taking part in the 2013 Football League Trophy final and the memorable 2015 League Two play-off promotion. He stayed through the club's return to League One before departing for Stevenage in June 2018.
