Stephen McLaughlin first arrived from Nottingham Forest on loan in March 2015 and quickly made himself part of an unforgettable end to the season. His goal in the play-off semi-final against Stevenage helped carry the Shrimpers towards their Wembley promotion.
Southend signed the Irish winger permanently that August, and his energy, left-footed delivery and goals from wide areas made him a familiar figure for the next five seasons. He played 186 competitive matches and scored 25 times across both spells before joining Mansfield Town in 2020.
